Frequently Asked

What is Alef?

Alef is the world’s first, transformational technology-enabled education solution which is a complete end-to-end mainstream form of formal classroom-based academic learning. Alef enhances the learning experience of K-12 students, by taking existing curricula and reshaping them for the 21st century.

Alef’s technology and the school’s curriculum are carefully synchronized, delivering a custom-made learning experience that enables each student to learn at their own pace. With anytime, anywhere access, each student is supported by a community of teachers who can make individualised decisions to ensure that they are meeting their short and long-term goals.

Alef’s educational design uses concepts like thematic interdisciplinary learning – where children learn to make connections between different fields and subjects; experiential learning – which encourages learning through experience and experiment; customized remediation strategies – which respond to the individual abilities and knowledge level of each student; and metacognition – where a student is encouraged to understand their own thought process. This design is then powered by natural language processing, advanced data science, and technology-enhanced content to deliver a system that engages students and encourages self-learning.

What is the Alef platform?

Using a variety of different methods, Alef’s platform is designed to encourage students to learn for themselves, improve their metacognition, therefore leading to higher creativity and better problem-solving skills over time.

Why is the Alef platform a world first?

Alef's technology stack is unique, focused on delivering maximum learning efficacy. The Alef platform is one of the key pillars of the overall ecosystem. It is modular, highly scalable, and based on the latest micro-services architecture.

Alef has engineered a 9 Layer Technology Framework designed specifically to bring Alef's unique vision to life.

Alef is a privately-held Abu Dhabi based company, and is supported by the Abu Dhabi Financial Group. Alef’s Abu Dhabi team comprises almost 300 people, working in close collaboration with development and research centres around the world, including in the United States, India, and the Netherlands.

Is Alef being used in the classroom, or is it still in development?

As of the start of the academic year 2017-2018, Alef is now being introduced in the classrooms of a public school in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In total, 240 students are experiencing this new, learner-centred education platform that has been 36-months in the making, and the Alef team is expecting to scale up to approximately 1,000 students in the coming months. The platform is the culmination of the ambitious efforts of a world-class team of education and technology professionals who have collaborated to enable outstanding educational design, powered by state -of-the-art technology.

Does Alef have plans to expand beyond Abu Dhabi?

The Alef ecosystem is positioned for eventual global use, both because of its versatile platform as well as its modular content that is adaptable to any curriculum, in any language. Currently, Alef is in close discussions with private school operators and public school districts, with aims to have operations in Egypt and other GCC countries in the near future.
